Albay Govenor Edcel “Grex” Lagman marked his first year in office after replacing disqualified Governor Noel Rosal.
Lagman officially assumed the gubernatorial seat on December 1, 2022 after Rosal was ordered dısqualified by the Commission on Elections.
“It was indeed providential that I have succeeded by operation of law to the governorship after the COMELEC en banc disqualified with finality former Governor Noel Rosal in a case of which I was never a party,” said Lagman.
“I consider my ascension to the highest executive position in Albay as my destiny. Therefore, when i took my Oath of Office as a full-fledged and incumbent governor, i knew i had to do so with humility and grace as well as with honor and excellence,” he added m.
Lagman also noted that when he won the vice gubernatorial race, he bagged an unprecedented and record-setting 463,879 votes.
“It was clear to all of them that my mandate as vice-governor included this possibility. Said probability has been realized when i assumed as the 26th Governor of the Province of Albay last 1 December 2022 or for exactly a year now,” he said.
Lagman also stressed that he has nothing to do with the disqualification case filed against Rosal.
“They even tried in vain to convince me to be play an active role in the case. As an officer of the court, i have the highest respect for how legal processes work,” said Lagman.
“It should not be influenced in any way, shape or form by the importuning of politicians and/or amoral politics. As an elected official who had the Albayano’s indubitable vote of confidence, i fully acknowledge and respect pading Noel’s overwhelming mandate to the tune of 469,481 votes. I understood the man’s state at that time,” he added.
