Leni secures P350-M funding for Mt. Isarog project

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has approved ₱350 million for a project aimed at rehabilitating existing facilities and promoting sustainable tourism at the Mt. Isarog Natural Park.

TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark Lapid personally informed Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo of the funding approval during his visit to the city.

The project will focus on repairing and rehabilitating facilities originally built by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), many of which have deteriorated after years of neglect and underuse.

“Preservation of the ecology at Mt. Isarog is a component of the project,” she said.

The mayor noted that Mt. Isarog serves as Naga City’s watershed and is home to diverse wildlife and natural resources.

To safeguard the area, the city has been monitoring activities within the park through personnel from the City Planning and Development Office, City Engineer’s Office, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Robredo emphasized that the city government does not intend to encourage over-tourism in the area. Instead, the project will enhance existing facilities and create more opportunities for eco-friendly adventure activities while avoiding major construction.

“There will be no construction of big structures or facilities,” she said.

For his part, Lapid assured city officials that the project would be implemented in line with the city government’s plans and vision.
